Flamingos are pink because they eat lots of tiny shrimp and algae that have a chemical called beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is the same thing that makes carrots orange! When flamingos eat these foods, their bodies take the beta-carotene and use it to make their feathers pink. Isn't that cool? Just like how eating lots of carrots can make your skin a little orange, eating lots of shrimp and algae can make a flamingo's feathers pink!
